A Brief History of Gene Tomas High School
Gene Tomas could almost be described as a household name in our Lamar CISD community. He has truly impacted so many students, faculty and community members in his over 30+ years with Lamar CISD. He has been described as a leader with such a natural talent to love, discipline and encourage with ease and finesse. He effortlessly inspires and motivates individuals of all ages to want to do well and be better. He has molded hundreds, if not thousands of students, on the field, in the halls and in the classroom to aid them in becoming productive citizens of our community. Additionally, his support of students in fine arts, FFA, academic, athletics and more has always been second to none.
Tomas worked for Lamar CISD for 37 years before he retired in 2015. He started at Bowie Elementary, before moving on to Lamar Jr. High, George Jr. High, Lamar Consolidated High School, Terry High School and ended his career as the principal of Foster High School. However, since his retirement, Tomas has been no stranger to the District. He is an avid substitute teacher, fan in the stands and even stepped up to serve as an interim assistant principal this past year when there was a staffing shortage. He has had a positive influence on the community as an educator for nearly forty years. He has inspired and motivated generations of students, serving each of the district’s color tracks at that time. Tomas has always embodied what it means to put students first and has showed countless students that their access is achievable..
