Tomas Gators,
The day has finally arrived…we are ready to welcome you to your first year at Gene Tomas High School. What an amazing year this will be! We are absolutely thrilled to see all of you tomorrow morning. There will be many new faces and places for everyone, but rest assured we are to help each of our students have a great Day 1. Parents, we ask for your patience as we embark on our opening day and week. We have planned, prepared, and reviewed our traffic, arrival, and dismissal procedures to ensure our students are safe. We ask that you are patient and understanding as we navigate first day traffic for FOUR schools on our complex. We will have additional law enforcement present to help with traffic. Do not stress about the small things, let us take care of them. Focus on sharing the excitement with your child(ren) of the VERY first day of school in the Elite Green Track!
Sincerely,
Principal Lilly Rincon

ATTENTION Tomas HS Community,
TxDOT’s has turned on traffic signals at both Easton Ramsey Way and Farmdale Road. These signals began functioning on Friday, August 8,2025.
THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE DRIVING THROUGH.
1. You must stop at the “STOP HERE ON RED” sign, when exiting either street onto FM 723. (See Picture #1)
2. The STOP HERE ON RED sign is positioned about 10 feet in back of the white STOP BAR double lines painted on the road. (See Picture #1)
3. TxDOT has installed traffic cameras aimed at this location which trigger the traffic signal when you approach and stop.
|
4. Because FM 723 is still being widened, a driver will think they are stopping prematurely for the light. They are not.
5. If a driver does not stop at the “STOP HERE ON RED” sign, the traffic signal will not be triggered to activate.
6. The attached photographs and site plan of Easton Ramsey Way illustrate what this means and also apply to Farmdale (See Picture #2) with one main difference, Easton Ramsey Way has a left turn signal for vehicles exiting the complex and turning left (south) on FM 723. Farmdale Rd. does not have a left turn signal. Farmdale Rd. will have a “LEFT TURN YIELD ON GREEN” sign hanging next to the traffic signals. Zachary will install this sign. Drivers turning left (south) onto FM 723 must watch for cars exiting the neighborhood on the other side of FM 723.
This is an example of a sentence to begin a paragraph.

As the 2025–2026 school year begins across the country, we want to remind everyone that the first few weeks can be busy and a little chaotic. With students, staff, and families all returning, traffic around campus—especially during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up—can be challenging. Please be patient and prioritize safety over speed. Rushing or driving recklessly puts everyone at risk, including your child. We recommend leaving a few minutes earlier than usual to allow for delays, and consider carpooling or using district transportation to help reduce congestion.
Buses will drop off behind the school, and those students will enter through the Cafeteria Entrance. Students dropped off in front of the school will enter through the Main Entrance.
Students who drive, will enter from FM723 only and will park behind the school and enter through the Cafeteria Entrance. Be on time!!
Do NOT drop off students behind the school. This area is reserved for student drivers and buses only.
Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to ensure a safe and smooth start to the school year!

🚌🚨IF YOU ARE A BUS RIDER, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO RIDE THE BUS THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL IF YOU DID NOT COMPLETE THE TRANSPORTATION FORMS! PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A RIDE HOME THE FIRST WEEK! SEE THE LINK TO FILL OUT AND RIDE BY WEEK 2!
|
🚨SCHEDULES WILL BE PRINTED FOR EVERY STUDENT, AS YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAVE A SCREENSHOT ON YOUR PHONE. (NO PHONES CAN BE VISIBLE PER THE NEW LAW). For your convenience, we have posted signs with the student ID of 1st-period classes outside the CAFE, and LIBRARY. We have also printed a hard copy that will be distributed in your 1st-period class.

Counselors are working diligently behind the scenes to ensure students have a schedule that meets their graduation requirements. Students will be able to apply for a Schedule Change Request beginning on Tuesday, August 12th - Friday, August 15th. Schedule Change Request Forms will be available at all lunch periods as well as as counselors. We understand that it is frustrating expecting to be enrolled in a course that was identified last year during course selections. We are making every possible attempt to honor those requests; however, keep in mind that Tomas does not have senior staffing which limits course offerings this year.
On Monday, August 11th, counselors will only be assisting with incomplete schedules and new students without a schedule. We appreciate your patience as we work to ensure all students are scheduled to graduate with distinction!
Tomas HS Counselors:

A lanyard is also provided to you. *If we need to issue you a temporary pass, it will cost $1 per pass.

IF YOU HAVE RECIEVED IT IN THE LAST WEEK -IT WILL HAVE A DESIGNATED PARKING SPOT LISTED IN YOUR EMAIL - PLEASE PARK THERE- AND YOU CAN PICK UP YOUR PASS DURING LUNCH ON MONDAY FROM THE FRONT OFFICE.
Please ensure you have all the required documents ready to go and complete BOTH steps (application and payment). Parking passes are all done online!
You will need pictures of these 3 documents to upload and complete the process:
- Driver's License (no permits allowed - must be a driver's license)
- Insurance Card (listing you as a driver)
- Screenshot of Completed Payment (QR code payment link included in the email)

There are several new procedures to be aware of, and we ask that you approach the day with patience and a positive attitude. While we may not agree with all recent changes, it’s essential that we are strictly following the newly passed HB 1481 Texas Law, which prohibits having any personal technology out of your backpack for the entire day, including instructional time, during lunches, passing periods, and advisory periods. If we see it, we must collect it, and there will be consequences for non-compliance. With this law recently passed, please be assured that we have campus technology in place to meet the academic needs of our Tomas HS learners. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
|
We also appreciate the support of parents as we adjust to our new normal. There will be an increased presence of LCISD officers on the first day. No need to worry; they are just here to support our Gators with crowd control, as it will take some extra time to enter the building and get to classes during the first few days. Therefore, attendance notifications may be slightly inaccurate until our students become familiar with the correct procedures for entering the building using the new safety device systems at primary entrances. This will apply every time they enter (and re-enter) the building, including from mid-day shuttles and following medical appointments. We will adjust the attendance errors as necessary, but this will take the entire first week to complete. Again, this will take time; please be patient and treat our staff with kindness. We are all doing our best to ensure our students and staff are safe and secure at all times.
The safety system process will take time, but there are ways YOU can help speed it up. Think of it like going through TSA at the airport—students should ensure their backpacks are free of the prohibited B.L.U.E. items (listed on the flyer below) and place them on the table before proceeding through the screening device while wearing their backpack. If they forget or leave a prohibited item in their backpack, they will be required to go to the back of the line and wait to go through again. This is the only way they will create a habit the right way. This must be strictly followed, and we expect respectful behavior, as we know our Gators understand the importance of responsibility Thank you for your assistance.

New Safety System Installed at All High Schools (LCISD Email Sent 8-1-2025)
Dear Lamar CISD Families,
Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and school community is paramount. As part of our ongoing efforts to create a safe learning environment for our students and staff, we are introducing a new safety measure for the upcoming school year.
Starting with the 2025–2026 school year, all high school campuses will implement the Evolv Express safety system—an advanced detection technology designed to enhance campus safety without disrupting the flow of the school day. This system allows students and visitors to walk through at a natural pace, reducing bottlenecks at entrances while helping our teams identify potential safety concerns quickly and accurately.
To prepare for this update, our campus administrators and the Lamar CISD Police Department participated in specialized training with the Evolv Technology team this summer.
What to Expect:
The Evolv Express system is designed to recognize everyday personal items such as backpacks, phones, watches, wallets, and keys—so students will NOT need to remove these as they enter the building. However, to ensure smooth passage, a few items will need to be taken out and passed separately through the system. To help students remember, we’re using the acronym B.L.U.E.:
-
Binders
-
Laptops *Students can’t use personal laptops during school hours and must follow the personal communication devices law (HB 1481).
-
Umbrellas
-
Eyeglass cases
We understand that any new process takes time to adjust to, and we’re here to support our students and families through this transition. This enhancement is one of many ways we are working to prioritize safety while maintaining the respectful, positive school culture that makes Lamar CISD so special.
Thank you for your understanding and your continued support. We are thankful for our community's strength and unity in ensuring the safety and security of all our students. If you have any questions, please contact us at Info@LCISD.org.
|
|
Please note that NO LUNCH DELIVERIES will be accepted during the first week of school. I will inform you when this can resume, as it requires school personnel to pause their duties to ensure meals go through the safety system properly.
|
ALL campus exterior doors are to remain locked. Visitors may only enter our campus from through the main entrance.
Students are not permitted to open any exterior door for anyone or leave a door propped open. Please ensure your student understands the importance behind this rule. Disciplinary action will be taken for anyone who does not follow this expectation.
Since our campus has our field house as part of our main building, athletes will not need to go out nor re-enter, unless stepping out on the fields. These students will have their coach with them to ensure they can re-enter the building after their Athletic period.

📩 Weekly Newsletter Reminder
Every Sunday, I send out the Tomas High School newsletter with everything you need to know. Check your email and Parent Square texts weekly! This helps students stay informed and build responsibility.
💡 Helpful Tip:
The newsletter is your 24/7 resource. You don’t have to read every word, but when your student says, “I don’t know,” the answer is probably in there. 😉
🛡️ New Safety System – Evolv Express
This year, we’re launching a new safety system at all high schools. It’s fast, accurate, and lets students walk in without stopping. It recognizes everyday items like backpacks, phones, keys, and wallets—no need to remove them!
🚫 A few items must be scanned separately. Remember B.L.U.E.:
- Binders
- Laptops (Personal laptops not allowed during school hours)
- Umbrellas
- Eyeglass cases
📵 New Law – HB 1481
Students can’t use personal communication devices (phones, smartwatches, tablets, etc.) during the school day or on school property.
🚪 Exterior Door Safety
To keep our campus secure, students may only enter through two doors:
1️⃣ Café Entrance (bus drop-off & student parking)
2️⃣ Front Entrance (parent drop off)
Starting at 7:45 AM, head straight to the cafeteria.
🚫 No gym door entry—reserved for athletes with morning practice.
🎒 Need to drop off gear or instruments? Wait until the 8:15 bell, then get to class by 8:25 to avoid being tardy.
Let’s kick off this inaugural year with safety, focus, and Gator pride!

📢New Texas Law Restricting Personal Communication Devices During School Day!
July 10th LCISD Email - New Texas Law Restricting Personal Communication Devices Use During the School Day!
Dear Lamar CISD Families,
We want to make you aware of a new Texas law that will go into effect at the start of the 2025–2026 school year and directly impacts student use of personal communication devices during the instructional day.
During the 89th Texas Legislative Session, House Bill 1481 was passed into law. This bill prohibits students from using personal communication devices during the instructional school day and while on school property. Devices covered under this law include cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, radios, pagers, or any other electronic device capable of telecommunication or digital communication.
This law applies to all public and open-enrollment charter schools across Texas, including Lamar CISD. Importantly, exceptions are made for students with documented medical needs or special education accommodations, which will be addressed according to the appropriate plans and protocols.
What This Means for Lamar CISD Students (PK–12)
Beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, Lamar CISD will implement the following practices in accordance with the new law:
- All personal electronic devices, including cell phones and smartwatches, must be turned off before entering campus.
- Devices must be stored in backpacks or lockers—not on the student’s person (e.g., clothing pockets)—and must remain powered off and completely out of view throughout the school day.
- Use or visible possession of any personal communication device during the school day will result in confiscation and disciplinary consequences.
This includes all areas inside the school building, such as:
- Classrooms
- Libraries
- Cafeterias
- Hallways
- Restrooms
- Locker rooms
- Any other common spaces
Devices may be turned back on only after the final bell at dismissal. At this time, students may use them to communicate with parents or guardians regarding transportation or other after-school needs.
Dismissal Times by Grade Level
-
Elementary A: 2:40 PM (7:15 AM – 2:40 PM)
-
Elementary B: 3:10 PM (7:45 AM – 3:10 PM)
-
Middle School / Junior High: 4:30 PM (9:05 AM – 4:30 PM)
-
High School: 3:50 PM (8:25 AM – 3:50 PM)
Please note: Receiving a call or text from a parent or family member during class is not an acceptable reason for device use. If you need to reach your child during the school day, please call the school’s front office, and we will ensure your message is delivered.
*If a student needs to make an emergency call during the day, they should report to the front office.
|
Gator Parents—be sure to submit your student’s transportation form through Family Access to secure bus service for the first day of school!
Aug 4-22 → Bus service begins Aug 25
After Aug 23 → Bus available after five school days
All students, no matter their form of transportation, must have a submission form completed by their parent or guardian before the start of the next school year.
